Guilty plea in theft of art (Seattle Times)

A former Pioneer Square art-gallery owner who was accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of valuable art has pleaded guilty to nine counts of first-degree theft.

The Gallery Owe blog was set up in the Spring of 2007 in response to the sudden closure of the Vancouver art gallery, Gallery O Contemporary, run by Sergio Patrich, Jordan Patrich, and Leah Patrich. Most of the artwork that was in the gallery at the time disappeared along with the Patrichs. It was around this time that a group of artists who had been shown at this gallery began telling each other their stories, discovering that very many of them had been swindled, lied to, cheated, humiliated and manipulated. Many had taken Sergio Patrich to court already and many won their cases but very few ever recovered either their art work or their money. This blog was created to provide a forum for artists and gallerists to tell their stories as well as to begin the discussion of how to improve the situation of artists and their representative galleries in general.

Le “blog” Gallery Owe a été créé au printemps 2007 en réponse à la fermeture soudaine d’une galerie d’art contemporain nommée Gallery O, de Vancouver, administrée par Sergio Patrich, Jordan Patrich, et Leah Patrich. La majeure partie des oeuvres d’art consignées à cette galerie a disparu avec les Patrich. Peu après, un groupe d’artistes dont les oeuvres y avaient été exposées ont commencé à échanger sur leur expérience et découvert que beaucoup d’entre eux avaient été escroqués, trompés, humiliés et manipulés. Plusieurs avaient déjà traîné Sergio Patrich en cour et certains avaient gagné leur cause mais très peu ont pu récupérer leurs oeuvres ou l’argent qui leur était dû. Ce “blog” a donc été créé pour offrir un forum aux artistes et aux galeristes afin qu’ils/elles puissent partager leurs expériences et initient une discussion sur la façon d’améliorer la situation générale des artistes et des galeries qui les représentent.
